DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Use to supplement equine diets based on grass or “mixed” hay. May also be used where a “general purpose” daily supplement is required.

Feed to horses weighing 1,000 lbs. or more, at the rate of three (3) ounces (85 grams) per day. Usage rate can be reduced proportionately, based on weight, for lighter breeds, younger horses, ponies, etc.

Feed at the rate of 4.5 ounces (127 grams) for pregnant mares in final 1/3 of gestation through initial 1/3 of lactation.

The enclosed 48cc scoop will hold approximately 1.50 ounces when filled to “level”. Two (2) level scoops will provide approximately three (3) ounces (85 grams).

Sprinkle powdered nutrients on top of pellets, or chopped hay, or herbs.

High Point Daily Nutrients for Grass or Hay-Fed horses comes in both loose powder and pellet form. I really like using pure alfalfa pellets as a base and then top-dressing with the High Point in powder form, since alfalfa contains the amino acids that are missing from grass and hay. Being a legume, alfalfa enables your horse to actually utilize all the protein in their grass or hay by completing the amino acid profile; thereby ensuring absorption/utilization.

In addition, High Point contains the amino acids that are often missing from grass and hay. Flax seed can also be used to provide complete proteins for horses, which is essential to ensure your horse is not suffering from chronic protein deficiency. Remember, whether human or horse, the body cannot use protein unless it has all the essential amino acids. This is why vegetarians also need to be careful about combining proteins, to ingest the full spectrum.

If your horse doesn't do well with alfalfa, then chopped hay (chaff) can also work well as a base.

I then drizzle cold-pressed flax or hemp oil over top, a blend of dried herbs, and seaweed powder. Sometimes I will include freshly ground flax seed, extra magnesium, or chia or hemp seed as well.

When I first got my wild horses, I would supplement them daily until they were no longer malnourished, deficiencies were resolved and their hooves and coats looked good. After that, I would supplement 3x/week. You should supplement your horse according to their activity level, stress, deficiencies, forage available, etc.

Too Much Iron can cause Laminitis and Cushing’s

The really key thing to watch out for with equine supplementation, is to make sure your horse is not getting too much iron. Iron has to be in the correct ratio with zinc and copper, or it contributes to laminitis, insulin resistance and equine Cushing’s disease.

When I got our hay tested, the iron level in our hay was 9x higher than zinc, and so completely out of balance with the zinc and copper. So that’s why I only use HorseTech’s High Point Grass/Hay vitamin/mineral supplement – which is formulated specifically for horses primarily fed grass and/or hay.

Note: We can also have HorseTech look at your hay analysis and create a custom-blended supplement specifically for your horse, if you wish. Email us for details: shoppe@listentoyourhorse.com
